BWA to honour founding businesswomen

The Businesswomen's Association (BWA) is calling on all founder members - those South African women who helped capture the business abilities of the community and create the BWA - in order to recognise their significant role in our country's history.

The BWA, the largest association of professional and businesswomen in South Africa, was formed in 2000 as the result of the merger of the EWC (Executive Women's Club), NAWBO (National Association of Women Business Owners) and PROWOLDO (Professional Women's Leadership Development Organisation).

"The BWA celebrates its fifth birthday this year and we would like to honour the women who made the association what it is today. These women played a pivotal role in positioning the role of women in South Africa," says Tina Thomson, CEO of the BWA.

If anyone would like to bring to the BWA's attention the names of women who were instrumental in empowering businesswomen via these organisations, please call the BWA on (011) 486-0186 or e-mail Busi Mkhabele at

The BWA is a non-profit organisation, sponsored by Nedbank and committed to offering real value in the form of leading and training, connecting and supporting members and South African business. The Association is a united, non-racial business organisation that assists businesswomen to network throughout their career. It also provides the support to help women business owners grow their businesses.
