New head for MTN corporate affairs

Rich Mkhondo, former chief communications officer for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee, has been appointed head of MTN's corporate affairs department. He replaces Nozipho January-Bardill who has left the company.

As executive for corporate affairs, Mkhondo will be the MTN Group spokesperson and responsible for conceptualising and implementing MTN's communications and stakeholder relations strategies throughout the company's operations in Africa and the Middle East.

Mkhondo's various roles

A Rhodes University journalism graduate, Mkhondo is former senior journalist having worked as a correspondent for Independent Newspapers in Washington and Reuters News Agency where he covered southern Africa.

He has also worked as communications executive manager and spokesperson for South African Airways (SAA) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee where he was responsible for communication and public relations in the run up to and during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Mkhondo was also MD of Ogilvy Public Relations (OPR) and is the author of a book titled Reporting South Africa that was published in 1993.
