Chartered Marketers Alumni

Chartered Marketers in South Africa took the first steps towards a formal Alumni body at a meeting at the Institute of Marketing Management last week. About 30 CMs in the Gauteng region agreed on the broad objectives of such a body, and are to hold a half-day work session to formalise their discussions.

The decision to do so follows a survey by the IMM last year in which an overwhelmingly positive response was received to a proposal to form an Alumni body.

250 Chartered Marketers have graduated since the inception of the IMM-sponsored programme in 1999.

In expressing their support for an Alumni, CMs at last week¹s meeting said they would like to meet as a forum to understand and drive marketing issues in Southern Africa. It was often hard work to 'sell' marketing to companies, and an Alumni would be an opportunity to energise one other.

An Alumni would also help marketers build a stronger Chartered Marketer brand.

Informal Alumni groups are already active in Durban and Cape Town. The Gauteng group will be the first to be formally constituted as a chapter.

The IMM's Chartered Marketer programme is targeted at professional marketers throughout southern Africa. It aims to bring the profession of marketing into line with other key disciplines, such as accounting.

The next Chartered Marketer Board exam will be held on 29 June 2002. It will be preceded by a compulsory refresher course from 21-23 June at the IMM-GSM, 14 Park Road, Richmond, which will include an orientation towards the type of assessment used by the Board.
