Jade Walters' black-and-white robot design earned her the top spot in the annual House and Leisure/Designers at Mr Price Home Awards held on the 26th of February.
Jade, a surface design student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, walked away with the first prize of R30 000 worth of Apple equipment to start up her very own design studio. Helen Gibbs, owner of luxury bed linen store Helon Melon, mentored her.
The second prize of R15 000 worth of Apple equipment went to Danita Snyders from Stellenbosch University's department of jewellery design, for her parsley-shaped salad servers. Leading jeweller Marchand van Tonder mentored Danita.
Branding specialist Veejay Archary mentored Sandile Furumele, a graphic design student at the AAA School of Advertising, who walked away with the third prize – worth R10 000 – for her amazing ‘handbag' gift-wrap concept.
