The M-Zine - a new concept in magazines

A young Joburg company, Verge Productions, has taken the ordinary magazine format and moved it into the digital era with the M-Zine, or multimedia magazine - an interactive CD showcasing South African filmmakers and musicians.

There is much that is familiar about the M-Zine. It reads like an ordinary print mag with articles and pictures, but its features are also accompanied by flash animation, sounds, real video and real music. As an example, you can learn more about top local filmmakers and their craft before viewing some of their latest work. You can even read a review of a South African music CD while listening to one of its tracks!

The result of efforts spanning three years, the M-Zine comes in a very PC-compatible CD-format and retails at a print mag-like price of R30. It aims at being the perfect showcase for the talents of local musicians and filmmakers, with the potential of reaching tens of thousands of South Africans.

There has been a great deal of positive feedback on the December 'beta' issue, which is still available at CD Wherehouses in Gauteng, and can also be ordered via a secure server on the Verge.co.za website.

The February release, which will be available in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, is being eagerly awaited as it promises a full write-up on the revival of the Vespa with interviews, history of the bike, why it was such an icon, pictures of new and old and a video review of the new Vespas. There will also be a Cutting Jade interview and review with songs, Part One of the Woodstock 4 documentary, the new Boo! music video and more than 20 other CD reviews!
