Tomorrow's trends today

Internationally renowned lifestyle and design trend forecaster Li Edelkoort is in Cape Town for Design Indaba, as well as a single reader presentation at the BMW Pavillion, V&A Waterfront, on Tuesday 28 February 2006, for Visi.

Edelkoort was named one of the world's 25 Most Influential People in fashion by TIME magazine. Born in Holland in 1950, she studied fashion and design at the School of Fine Arts in Arnheim, but it was as a buyer in a leading Dutch department store that she discovered an uncanny ability to predict what consumers would want to buy several seasons ahead.

Her pioneering work in predicting trends has made her one of the world's most sought-after lifestyle forecasters, advising clients such as Nissan, Gucci and Coca Cola on how tomorrow's consumers will want to live, dress, drive and eat.

"We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Li's calibre in Cape Town," says Sumien Brink, VISI editor, whose magazine embodies the Edelkoort contention that "there is no creation without advance knowledge, and that without design, a product cannot exist".

The two-fold presentation, in association with VISI magazine, will talk to the complete marketing spectrum, from conceptual design to final point of sale, embracing the future shape of lifestyle and fashion. It will also be of particular interest to architects, fashion and interior designers.
