Design Indaba selects emerging creative

Caryanne Cleevely, who successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Brand Communications from the AAA School of Advertising in December 2009, has been selected to present her work at the annual Design Indaba Expo, taking place 26-28 February 2010 at CTICC.
Design Indaba selects emerging creative

An integral part of the expo each year is the identification of an emerging creative, who could be either a student in the creative faculty at a tertiary institution in South Africa, or a designer in the industry who is in the process of establishing his or her own design service or business.

The young graphic designer will have an audience of over 200 buyers and journalists from around the world, not to mention local and international designers.

Dream fulfilled

“I'm thrilled to be part of such a prestigious international event that showcases the very best in the world of design,” says Cleevely. “The Design Indaba represents all that creativity has to offer, and it's an honour to have been selected as an emerging creative to exhibit my work.”

After having spent eight years working in the corporate arena, Cleevely could no longer resist her creative calling and decided to pursue a degree in graphic design. With the goal of opening up her own studio, she worked part-time while studying, designing corporate identities, brochures and invitations for small to medium-sized businesses. Her work soon took off, and in 2007 she established her own company called Sublime Design. Today, the business has grown into a well-managed marketing and events company which Cleevely part owns with her sister.

“I love to be inspired through other people's creative talents, through music, through nature and the diversity of people that share this earth,” explains Cleevely. “The most important part of my design process, which is a leaf I took from my lecturers at AAA, is to do extensive research. Information is knowledge and I believe it empowers you to achieve great things.”

“Caryanne is an extremely talented and hard-working individual and I have no doubt that she will make the most of this opportunity,” says Ludi Koekemoer, principal of the AAA School of Advertising. “She is well-equipped with everything that she needs to make her mark on the industry.”
