Experiencing commitment

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, JWT’s Studio opened a 24 hour love chapel for a one-night-only shotgun wedding fest in Cape Town, complete with wedding dresses, confetti, a black Elvis conducting the Ceremonies of Lurve, plastic wedding bands, marriage certificates, wedding music and Smirnoff cocktails.
Experiencing commitment

Over 200 couples of lovers, artists, musicians, photographers, and the greater Long Street community, were joined in ‘wedding matrimony’ and declared their love to each other and Smirnoff, a brand that positions itself as vibrant, fun, irreverent and all about refreshing celebrations.

One lucky couple even caught the bouquet and won a night at exclusive boutique hotel Daddy Long Legs, which also threw in a bottle of bubbly and breakfast.

Experiencing commitment

Pre-promotion of this event was key and JWT pulled out all the stops. A viral emailer invitation made its way around Cape Town and posters which lined the streets of the Mother City got hearts racing. Blushing brides literally stopped traffic for two days leading up to the event as they handed out white streamer invitations in all their bridal glory.

Conn Bertish, JWT creative director, comments, “We came up with this idea last year and have been looking forward to putting into action for the last few weeks. Some ideas just have to be done; this was one of them, expect more.”
