What comes first - freelance or newspaper/magazine work to start off a career?
So I've just finished my journalism certificate and I have a Business Science degree. I have been writing on a freelance basis for about a year, and the plan is to eventually (though not too eventually), freelance permanently, in a manner of speaking.
My problem is that I'm not sure, whether as a young writer, I should start off working at a newspaper or magazine before I wonder off into the wild unknowns of going solo,or if I should start freelancing immediately, by travelling and writing.
I'm also not really sure whether freelancing or full-time opportunities are harder to come by, so I won't know which to cherish.
I'd really appreciate some advice on this. Thanks!
