The #FridayStandIn: Clem Sunter at the mic

Renowned scenario planner; highly regarded speaker, author and Honorary Doctorate recipient, Clem Sunter will be hosting the Redi Tlhabi show on Talk Radio 702 and 567 CapeTalk as this week's Friday Stand-in.

Each Friday while Redi Tlhabi is on maternity leave, the stations offer the hot seat to a different prominent personality and this week it is Clem Sunter's turn.

    Gift of the gab

He will need to balance a diverse range of calls during an hour of open line, followed by conversations with a number of guests for the regular Friday features. These include Chris Smith, the Naked Scientist, a comedian, Dr Eve for Talking Sex and Aki Anastasiou for technobyte.

An accomplished speaker, Clem was voted "the speaker who has made the most significant contribution to, and impact on, best practice and business in South Africa" by leading South African CEOs. He clearly has the gift of the gab but will this translate to his new role asking the questions instead of giving the answers?

Clem Sunter rose the corporate ladder at Anglo American and was CEO of their South African Gold and Uranium division in the 1990s. Until recently he was Chairman of the Anglo American Chairman's Fund, which has been voted a leading corporate social responsibility fund in South Africa.

    Skilled interviewer

He built the scenario planning function within this organisation, which he extended to scenario planning for South Africa as we headed into the transition from apartheid to democracy. He presented his scenarios to FW de Klerk and the cabinet in 1986 and met with Nelson Mandela while he was still in jail to discuss the future of the country.

He was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Cape Town for his work in the field of scenario planning.

Clem Sunter has also authored 14 books, a number of which have been bestsellers.

Tune in to Talk Radio 702 and 567 CapeTalk on Friday 1 November to find out if Clem's impressive CV prepares him for three hours of talk radio.
