Volkswagen AG donates R20m for new youth centre

The chairman of the Volkswagen Group South Africa, Hubert Waltl, turned the first sod at the site of the new loveLife Youth Centre in KwaNobuhle near Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.

The R20 million loveLife Youth Centre aims to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the youth of the Uitenhage area. It will offer youth specialised counselling services and also provide support to teenagers and parents. Additionally, it will have outreach programmes covering nearly 20 000 young people annually in the 20 surrounding schools.

World Cup legacy project

The centre is Volkswagen South Africa's 2010 World Cup legacy project and is funded through a donation from Volkswagen AG. It will be managed by loveLife and the centre is scheduled to open on 1 December 2012, which is World Aids Day.

At the sod-turning, Volkswagen MD, David Powels said: "Volkswagen Group South Africa and Volkswagen AG believe the centre will have a meaningful impact on the community of KwaNobuhle and the surrounding areas for future generations."
