Lazy South Africans living on grants

South African's have been branded as a lazy bunch of people who don't want to work and wangle their way into receiving grants according to a report published by Business Live, based on employment figures from Adcorp.

Business Live says that government hand-outs, trade unions and affirmative action have combined to create a marked negative effect on the desire to work in South Africa.

Adcorp's Loane Sharp says that 10,2-million South Africans - equivalent to one-in-five - received grants or one form or another. There are a total of 14,9-million grants being paid amounting to 1,5 grants per person and giving beneficiaries an average income of R9 539 annually.

Sharp says that a total of 43,3% of unemployed people are willing to accept a job if they are offered one when they are living off their own savings whereas just 11,1% of people will accept a job if they are being paid social welfare grants.
