Arterial Network presents overview of achievements

Arterial Network (AN), a network of role players in the African creative sector, celebrated its fifth birthday on 7 March 2012. On Thursday, 22 March the African Arts Institute (AFAI) will host a networking session and coffee morning with AN outgoing secretary general Mike van Graan, presenting an overview of the Network's continental and global achievements and future projects.

The event is free of charge and will take place at the AFAI office at Union House, 25 Commercial Street in Cape Town.

AN was founded at a conference on Gorée Island in Senegal in 2007 and has recorded unprecedented growth, in representation and membership as well as standing and authority in the global creative sector. It is committed to developing African arts and culture on the continent in its own right and as means to contribute to democracy, human rights and development in Africa.

    Represented throughout Africa

AN is currently represented in 34 African countries, with membership exceeding 2 700 and reaching a database of 9 000. The organisation has hosted three successful continental conferences, most recently the first ever Creative Economy conference in Africa, in December last year. It feeds a host of other networks, task teams and action groups around the continent which will be highlighted in the presentation.

This is AFAI's second networking session for 2012 through which the institute aims to engage local, international and African Diaspora arts practitioners in conversation and collaboration. The networking sessions are hosted alongside the Institute's ongoing series of African Film Nights, All
Africa Dance Parties and other events.
