Umhlanga community magazine celebrates its 50th issue

The Ridge magazine, a community magazine for the Umhlanga area, has published its 50th issue which highlights some of the success stories along the past seven years of publishing. The magazine is now part of the growing Famous Publishing stable of titles, which include magazines in Hillcrest, the Natal Midlands, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The issue also covers the usual mix of community news, pictures and news from the social scene, business news, including a feature on property investment and the lifestyle elements that are a key part of the magazine's success.

Famous Publishing recently became a Media24 company. Included in plans for this division is a national presence in South Africa's desirable communities and the launch of community websites, digital and mobile applications around South Africa. The first such site, The Ridge Online, is already touching 20 000 unique users a month after a year's operation, while The Crest Online was launched two months ago and is gaining new followers by the day.

With a view to the boom in mobile connectivity and tablets, all titles are available for reading online at Zinio.

"Fifty is a significant milestone for us," said editor Garth Johnstone. "It proves we're here to stay, and we will remain part of the community debate for many more issues to come. Congratulations to my team and everyone who has played a role in the development of the magazine. We're particularly happy about the progress in our digital plans, and look forward to growing the brand in future."
