Nersa calls for public comments on Eskom's price-increase

According to ESI-Africa, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has received Eskom's application for the Third Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD 3) for the period 2013/14 to 2017/18. Eskom has applied for an average increase of 16% per year from 2013/14 to 2017/18. The utility is proposing a five-year price determination, running from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2018, in contrast to MYPD 1 and MYPD 2, both of which spanned three years.

Having published Eskom's MYPD 3 application on its website and requested written comments, Nersa announced it will follow due process in considering Eskom's application. According to the approved timelines, stakeholders have until 20 November to send their comments to Nersa. Public hearings in all provinces are scheduled to take place between 15 and 31 January 2013, and the regulator's decision on Eskom's MYPD3 application is due by 28 February 2013

ESI-Africa reports that Nersa encouraged all stakeholders and the public to actively participate in this process by submitting written comments and attending or making oral representation at the January 2013 public hearings.
