SAARF AMPS, RAMS AND TAMS Training Seminars for 2003

The SAARF Introductory AMPS Training Seminars are not only directed at new users of the AMPS series of products, but also those who feel that they would benefit from a 'refresher'.

The seminars will be presented in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. However, if there is a demand for the seminars in other centres, such seminars can be arranged on request. Not more than 20 persons will be enrolled for each seminar to allow for more interactive communication. Users who are interested are therefore requested to book early. If the demand justifies it, additional dates will be provided.

Topics covered include:

1. Introduction to SAARF

2. SAARF Strategy for the Future:

How is SAARF going to improve its services cost effectively?

3. The SAARF AMPS Survey:

How is the survey designed and why ? Which "currencies" are available, what do they mean and how do I use them ? SAARF Branded Product Research, future plans for outdoor research. What data are in the AMPS reports and on the electronic database ?

4. The SAARF RAMS Diaries:

Why diaries? Survey design and the link with AMPS. Which measures are available? How do I use the information?

5. The SAARF TAMS Meter Panel :

Why TAMS Meters? How does the TAMS Meter work? Survey design. What are ARs? How do I use them?

6. Margin of error:

What is margin of error? Why should it be allowed for ? How do I calculate and apply the margin of error?

7. The SAARF Universal Living Standards Measure (SU-LSM):

Why LSMs? How are they calculated? How do I use them? Are they the ideal solution for classifying people? What about the future?

8. Other SAARF Segmentation Tools

The SAARF Media Groups Measure (MGM), extending the list of activities to obtain a full picture also of activities such as religion, sports, hobbies, etc.

9. SAARF Demographic Research:

Why is demographic research important for SAARF? What are we doing in this regard ? Is the 2001 Population Census going to provide accurate data?

10. SAARF Development Index

An instrument that Government can use to monitor progress with the provision of services such as electricity, water, sanitation and many other aspects.

11. Other SAARF Activities:

Development Research and why ? Validation Research and why? Local and International liaison. Development in other African Countries. What is PAMRO?

Due to the amount of detail which will be provided, each seminar will be divided into two sessions. In Johannesburg, the sessions will be on two consecutive mornings. For practical reasons an afternoon session, followed by a morning session the next morning, or vice-versa, will be used in other centres. The dates and venues are as follows:
