NEWSWATCH: According to the Professional Journalists' Association of South Africa (ProJourn), police officers neither know nor understand their own regulations relating to media coverage of crime, reports Mail & Guardian, which also reports that the ANC is miffed and reckons the media is being mean to Jimmy Manyi. Meanwhile, Zuma asked for suggestions for his state of the nation address - and got them... in spades, reports Times Live.

Mail & Guardian: Journalists take aim at cops after attack on photographer... Commenting on the attack on Pretoria News photographer, Masi Losi, on Friday by police - when he took pictures of them for actually doing their job, the Professional Journalists' Association of South Africa, ProJourn, said on Saturday that "This incident serves as a painful reminder that the police do not understand their own regulations [to whit, Standing Order 156] in this regard, let alone the law governing media coverage of crime." Hands up anyone who is surprised?
Mail & Guardian: ANC says Manyi being unfairly criticised... The ANC is very cross because they reckon the media is 'unfairly' attacking the government's new spokesman - you know... the one who has a somewhat 'interesting' past, including being suspended from his job and allegedly trying to use an official meeting with our Nordic friends to set up some business on the side . Apparently on Thursday last week Manyi, however, was not available for comment, but told a government colleague he "did not want to speak to anyone" - how's that for a brilliant start for a career in communications?
Times Live: President swamped with ideas... The Presidency said on its Twitter and Facebook fan pages that Zuma was looking for ideas on "how can we improve the lives of all South Africans", and promptly faced a Twitterfall of suggestions on everything from corruption to Zimbabwe. Now, the question is: Having asked for suggestions and ideas, will Zuma actually take heed of them? Well, we'll find out soon.
