Capetonians invited to create 2010 visitor guide

In creating ‘Your Guide to Cape Town A-Z', Cape Town Tourism and The Big Issue are calling on the people of Cape Town to participate in 'crowd sourcing' the content by sending in their suggestions across a variety of themes between now and 10 May 2010. The guide will be included in the publication's 2010 FIFA World Cup special edition, available for three weeks from 11 June.

The themes, which include Cape Town Mahala, Comedy Music and Book Clubs, Sports and Active, Spoken Word and Slam Poetry, Responsible Tourism, Restaurants and Wineries, Green CT, Kids, Teen and Family, will be released on Facebook and Twitter every two days. People are encouraged to suggest anything that they would like a 2010 FIFA World Cup visitor to experience in Cape Town.

The Big Issue plans a bumper print run of 25 000 to cater for the increased readership during the period.

"The magazine provides employment to over 400 vendors, who in turn support some 1 500 people. The vendors are ideally positioned to be tourism ambassadors and the magazine has a solid, instantly recognisable status internationally. We feel certain that this useful guide will push up sales and directly benefit these people during the 2010 FIFA World Cup,” says Cape Town Tourism CEO, Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold.
