Electrical Engineer

A company based in Pretoria East is hiring an electrical engineer to work on a diverse range of projects in the public and private sectors.

The candidate will lead and manage several projects and will be the primary liaison between the client and the engineering team (in some instances).

Duties:

• Develop designs for MV and LV electrical infrastructure, particularly building services and site reticulation
• Undertake technical and financial feasibility studies and site investigations
• Conduct condition assessments of existing electrical infrastructure and related systems
• Compile, review and approve documentation including drawings, reports, bills of quantities and specifications
• Provide technical advice and use sound engineering principles to identify and evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
• Lead, manage and oversee teams of engineers, both internal and from other firms and organisations
• Ensure compliance with company design standards and document control procedures
• Ensure adequate and effective communication between clients, professional design teams and contractors
• Manage client expectations
• Manage contractors and inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and regulatory standards
• Manage budgets and other project resources
• Assess potential risks on projects and undertake risk management
• Assist in developing, updating and maintaining departmental standards and policies relating to electrical engineering design
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and benchmarking best practices
• Contribute towards building the company’s electrical engineering capabilities in terms of MV/LV design, infrastructure development and energy management

Requirements:

• Minimum of two years' experience post-graduation
• BEng (Electrical) or BSc electrical engineering degree
• Registered as a PrEng / close to professional registration

Skills:

• Ability to write concise, effective engineering reports
• Familiarity with national standards applicable to MV and LV systems
• Experience in design, simulation and documentation of electrical infrastructure and MV / LV distribution

Compulsory requirements:

• AutoCAD
• Revit MEP
• Schneider Ecodial 
• Relux / DiaLux
• ETAP, ReticMaster, DigiSILENT
• Ability to identify and act on business development opportunities within own field of expertise as well as other fields and disciplines

Working conditions:

• Multi-disciplinary engineering firm
• The candidate will be required to travel regularly, mostly within South Africa (typically once a week for one or two days at a time)
• Permanent contract
