Key purpose of the role

The Kfm music compiler is the custodian of the music on the station. The purpose of the role is to plan, build and execute the music strategy in collaboration with the group music manager and the station manager, compile the playlist for the station on a daily basis (in line with strategy) and manage all music features and requirements for the station.

Key outputs/ accountability

• Compile the daily music logs for the stations
• Respond to all telephone calls and e-mail queries relating to the music
• Compile music charts and other music features
• Compile music research song lists, and interpret and collate research data
• Plan, execute and implement music research projects in collaboration with the programme manager and music consultant
• Keep abreast of new music releases and trends
• Filter through all music submissions
• Liaise with record company representatives
• Arrange promotional music give-aways
• Create and check the daily music and promo logs
• Design and tweak schedule clock templates
• Compile SAMRO and ICASA reports
• Arrange regular station music monitoring
• Competitor monitoring
• Compile daily music features for all shows
• Arrange loading of new music, station branding and promos
• Update the stations’ digital streams
• Conducting of play-list meetings
• Ensure Kfm is complying with SA music quota requirements
• Liaison with the Music Presenters with regards to music play-lists/queries
• Set up artist interviews in conjunction with Programme Manager/Station Manager and producers when required
• Liaise with Marketing department about music related events

Educational qualifications and experience

• Matric
• Relevant tertiary education
• Thorough knowledge of contemporary music
• Computer Literacy – Basic programs i.e. Windows, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Experience in music compiling and programming  
• Literacy in SELECTOR or any similar based music applications.
• Basic understanding of the commercial radio environment and radio music formats.
• Minimum of 3 years music compiling experience at a Commercial Radio Station 
• Experience in working with audio editing software including Adobe Audition (or similar)
• Previous work experience in Media would be an advantage
• ICASA, SAMRO and SAMPRA reporting experience

• Ability to create and manage station playlists that meet the Kfm strategic music objectives on a daily basis.    
• Attention to detail is key to the managing of song categories on a daily basis.
• Selection of the music in terms of balancing music genres and tempos.
• Correct usage of music research to conduct the music categories
