What we’re looking for

We’re seeking a freelance writer with a strong technical writing background to help us develop concise, accurate, and engaging HSE content that translates well into visual formats. You’ll work alongside illustrators, animators, designers and the rest of the writing team to create scripts for health and safety media, such as visual standards, toolbox talks, e-learnings, storyboards, training content, etc.

Ideally based in Cape Town 

Key responsibilities

• Reading and understanding client briefs, with the help of client managers
• Research and write clear, structured safety communication content (scripts, procedures, posters, toolbox talks) based off of client SOPs, incident reports, 
• Translate technical HSE content into plain English
• Write to storyboard format for animations and illustrated guides
• Collaborate with visual teams to ensure accurate, visual-friendly writing
• Revise content based on feedback from internal reviewers and clients

Requirements

• Proven experience in technical writing, HSE content development, or safety communications
• Ability to write clearly and concisely for a diverse workforce (low literacy or multilingual environments)
• Ability to clearly explain how to express an idea visually, not just verbally
• Strong grasp of visual storytelling principles
• Experience with industries such as mining, construction, energy, or manufacturing preferred
• Familiarity with visual formats (e.g. illustrated standards, e-learning modules, explainer videos) is a bonus
• Excellent written English
• Chosen candidates will be asked to complete a writer’s test to expose you to the typical tasks/projects you’ll be expected to work on
