Lala Steyn is the Head: Schools Investment Fund at Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI) and is responsible for the Schools and Education Investment Impact Fund South Africa and the School and Education Grant Fund.
Lala holds a BA (Hons) and an MBA, and joined Old Mutual Investment Group in June 2010. As a member of the Development Impact Funds team, she is responsible for the Schools and Education Investment Impact Fund South Africa and the School and Education Grant Fund.
Lala has over 20 years of experience in South Africa and other African countries on management and implementation of development programmes in various sectors. She is a strategic problem solver and driver of the design and implementation of programmes that contribute to growth and development. Her first job was as an English second language teacher in a township school in the 1980s. In the mid-1980s and early 1990s she worked in the NGO sector against forced removals and on land and housing issues. In 1995, she joined the Mandela government as a Senior Manager for the National Department of Land Affairs. Thereafter, she worked as a sustainable development consultant.
