SA newspapers snub children - again

SA newspapers snub children - again
[Issa Sikiti da Silva] Despite the representation of children in South African print media slightly improving in 2009 (8.4% down from 6% in 2003), a report published recently by Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) shows that generally children continue to be snubbed and sidelined by the country's major newspapers, prompting critics to question the media's commitment in promoting nation-building.

SABC CEO should report to board, not to minister - analyst
[Issa Sikiti da Silva] The issue of newly appointed SABC CEO Solly Mokoetle reporting directly to Minister of Communications Siphiwe Nyanda, and not to the board, is fuelling debate like never before and has raised questions whether the ‘weak' and government-controlled public broadcaster will ever find inner peace and stability.

[Simo Adams] If you are as unlucky as me you will be back to the daily grind at the office this lovely Monday. But don't despair I have a cool competition that will put the sparkle back in your eyes and the spring into your step. And in the process you get to make friends with yours truly, a great honour indeed.

Yoray Narainpersad commented on E-book sales beat print sales at Amazon

This is no surprise to me (as im an internet marketer), and it is a fact that the most popular item to be bought online for a good few years are e-books. More than 40% of online shoppers buy ebooks as compared to other items bought online.

reason- you pay for it and get it instantly as a download - quick and easy. Plus the internet is world of information at our finger tips and widely used for this, so are ebooks.

Pretty Electric

Pretty Electric
[Ruth Cooper] Having a seriously blond moment, I blame it on the 'brain turning to mush in the holidays syndrome' rather than some new highlights, I misplaced my and friends tickets to see The Pretty Blue Guns and Ashtray Electric playing at Kirstenbosch in the Kirstenbosch girls toilets. Where the tickets disappeared to is a true mystery. Perhaps I flushed them down the loo, or more likely I think it was the-far-too-young-and-innocent looking five-year-old girl who arrived in the toilet just after us.

Award-winning drummer seeks manager, seriously

Award-winning drummer seeks manager, seriously
[Sindy Peters] Kesivan Naidoo, winner of the 2009 Standard Bank Young Jazz Artist Award, joined the BizLounge for a quick Q&A session so we could find out what it's like to live a day in his life. Apparently, it's extremely busy; so busy that he has to plan his life six months in advance. I'm sure he would have made a fine architect, but the drums seemed to call his name.

Fabulous afro-fusion with FreshlyGround
[Sindy Peters] South Africa is teeming with talent in the entertainment industry. When they're good they're good and when they're bad, they're boring. FreshlyGround are anything but boring. They're a special band that stands out from the deluge of bands gigging every other night in the Mother City.

Prime Circle, tighter than your average skinny jeans

Prime Circle, tighter than your average skinny jeans
[Sindy Peters] You won't catch ‘em applying guy-liner, man-scara or wearing skinny jeans, but they sure are one of South Africa's tightest acts in the rock field. Prime Circle was let loose in Wynberg, Cape Town for the second instalment of the Sunshine Saturday's Concert Series last weekend, 19 December 2009. Again, crowd attendance wasn't exceptional, but they were definitely a lively bunch.

Melinda Storer commented on Do I need an entertainment lawyer?

Paul Gardner has built a Baltimore law firm known for representing musicians and other entertainers. Now, he also counts among his clients the aspiring reality TV stars who crashed last week's White House state dinner.Gardner is no stranger to the intersection of social networking and the law. Last year, he told a legal marketing newsletter about using MySpace to help build his practice, beginning by adding “friends” to his page and then communicating with at least one musician.
