Mark makes pilgrimage to 94.7
Joburg-based radio station 94.7 Highveld Stereo has announced that talented DJ Mark Pilgrim has been contracted to the station on a freelance basis.
Pilgrim was dismissed by 5fm in November for not adhering to the approved playlist. After being off air for only three weeks, Primedia Broadcasting recognised that he would appeal to their listeners and began negotiations. He made his debut on the station on the weekend breakfast show from 6am to 10am on Sunday, 14 December.
Says Ravi Naidoo, station manager of 94.7 Highveld Stereo, "Mark Pilgrim is a popular personality. We think that he will fit well in to the sound of the station. In the interim he will be filling in as a freelance presenter."
Mark commented, "Whilst I really enjoy working across all media platforms including TV, radio has always been my passion. I am looking forward to getting back on air. The guys at Highveld have a management style which I subscribe to, so it's great to now be part of the team. I feel like I am coming home. In fact, I'll even try and stick to the play list this time!"
Mark Pilgrim is a popular personality in South Africa's entertainment circles. In 2001 he co-hosted South Africa's first local reality TV show on M-Net - Big Brother - and went on to host the sequels. His true passion though is radio, and he has been in the industry for eight years. After obtaining his B.Comm and working in market research for ten years, he decided to follow his heart and joined 5FM back in 1995. He has also released three CD compilations.
