Control Instruments-Automotive has announced a strategic partnership with TMD Friction in Luxembourg to market its brake friction products in sub-Saharan Africa.

"TMD Friction is the global leader in the manufacture of brake friction products in the OEM and OES sectors of the automotive and brake industry, producing one million brake friction products each day globally," said Kevin Rogers, general manager of CI-Automotive.

Its product portfolio comprises disc brake pads and drum brake linings for passenger cars and commercial vehicles together with brake pads for racing and friction materials for rail and industry.

This experience also forms the platform for TMD's extensive range of aftermarket friction brands - Textar, Pagid, Mintex, Don, Cobreq and Cosid, through which an extensive range of replacement friction parts are provided, as well as associated components and accessories, to the global independent aftermarket.

Global support to customers

"TMD's business is structured to meet the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow, with global operations positioned to support its customers and to match the rising demand from emerging markets," he said. Fourteen production sites in nine countries on four continents are complemented by R&D centres in Leverkusen (Germany), Troy (USA), Indaiatuba (Brazil) and Merrivale (South Africa).

To create additional development support for Asian vehicle and brake manufacturers TMD Friction is currently expanding its R&D resources in Japan and China. Racing expertise of TMD Friction is located in Rosbach (Germany) and Cape Coral (Florida, USA).

Rogers said the partnership between TMD Friction Services and Control Instruments is a strategic one that gives TMD extensive access to sub-Saharan African markets through Control Instruments' network of distributors and customers. "For CI-Automotive, access to TMD's wide range of friction products and brands is a natural synergy to the basket of premium brands it currently supplies and supports."
