The cover was shot by up-and-coming photography artists Jonathan Kope and Jared Figgins, who translated their vision of a group of hard-working musicians on the road (albeit in a different era) into a striking image that tells the tale of an industry ruled by men, but sonically dominated by women.
Another first for Cape Town music and for the magazine, is the inclusion of a limited-edition CD featuring one track from an as-yet-unheard-of Stellenbosch band called Stepdog. This is a unique marketing angle employed by the band's new management agent Apollo Artists.
Issue 41 also features: a list of the 40 Most Influential Names in Cape Town music; some insightful opinion courtesy of mystery blogger Joe Bloggs; the usual full-colour gig reviews; four new SA music CD reviews; a brand new band in Bandwatch; a venue map; and, of course, the comprehensive, pull-out gig-guide poster, listing all the best gigs in the Cape across September.
The magazine also runs a weekly general pub quiz at The Shack (home from home for the Cape Town music industry), as well as its own live music concerts from time to time.
