Jaguar auto diesel coming to SA

Saloon and estate versions of the new Jaguar X-TYPE – including for the first time a 2.2-litre diesel with automatic transmission – are due to go on sale in South Africa in about May next year.

The Jaguar X-TYPE gets a dynamic new look for 2008, along with a host of new features inside and out, including nearly 500 new components.

CJ O'Donnell, global marketing director at Jaguar Cars said the new automatic diesel will present dealers with an excellent opportunity to attract new customers to the brand.

Available in saloon and estate variants, the new X-TYPE six-speed automatic with one-touch sequential shift is expected to appeal to a younger, more family-orientated audience.

The 2.2D manual version has headline figures of 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds, a maximum speed of 220km/h and a combined fuel economy of 6.0l/100km. The respective figures for the 2.2D automatic are 9.9 seconds, 208km/h and 6.9l/100km. The comparative figures are similar for Estate versions.

The local retail prices of the new Jaguars have not yet been finalised.
