The Strictly Hip Hop Finals

The stage is set for the Strictly Hip Hop Underground Pretoria Dance Finals where crews will compete for R100,000 and status and South Africa's Best Dance Crew. The Strictly Hip Hop dance competition has grown since its debut in 2006, becoming one of the premier annual hip hop dance events in South Africa. The 2008 Grand Finale drew a crowd of 7,800 to the Pretoria Showgrounds, crowning Kempton Park-based dance group “Freeze Frame” the Strictly Hip Hop Champions.

The event is also focused on promoting the importance of healthy living and dance skills development for the youth.

Leading music TV channel MTV base (DStv Channel 322) is the official television partner for the May elimination round, which will feature MTV VJ and hip hop fan Fikile “Fix” Moeti as MC.

“We at Strictly Hip Hop are very excited about this partnership and the opportunity for our young and gifted dancers to showcase their talents to a wider audience.” said Strictly Hip Hop General Manager Ngoni Takawira.

Commented Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, MTV Networks Africa, ‘Hip hop is one of the most popular music genres among MTV base viewers and we are delighted to partner with Strictly Hip Hop in their search for hip hop's finest dance crews.”

This year's Strictly Hip Hop Competition will have the added attraction of a surprise performance by Stephen “Twitch” Boss, runner up from the hit MTV show, “The Wade Robson Project”. “Twitch” has since become one of the foremost dancer/choreographers appearing in the 2007 and 2008 seasons of Fox's “So You Think You Can Dance”, the movie Hairspray, and is currently in New York City shooting the dance movie “Step Up 3D.”

“Strictly Hip Hop is one of the hottest dance competitions going on in South Africa today, and I am hyped to be a part of one of the events….South Africa, Here I come!” said an excited and energetic Twitch.

The Strictly Hip Hop Pretoria elimination round takes place on Saturday, May 16th at ZK Matthews Hall at UNISA Pretoria. Doors open 2pm. Tickets cost R50 and are available at the door
