Tshwane Events Centre welcomes IEC

The Tshwane Events Centre – formerly the Pretoria Show Grounds - has welcomed the decision of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to use its premises as nerve centre before, during and after the April general elections.

CEO Wim du Toit says the decision is an indication that the events centre is regarded as the prime venue for diverse events in Tshwane, especially where large numbers of people need to be accommodated comfortably. "Our premises were used as the election results centre before and have proven its suitability for this. We are looking forward to welcoming the hundreds of IEC staff, representatives from political parties, parliamentarians and other dignitaries who will turn the centre into a hive of activity."

The IEC will occupy Halls G and J for the whole of March and April, giving them enough time for build-up and post election breakdown.

Du Toit says the location of the events centre is also particularly suitable for the IEC's purposes, as it is close to the offices of all national government departments and easily accessible. "Add to this our successful track record, and we are confident that we will once again fulfil the needs of the IEC in terms of the election nerve centre."

The Tshwane Events Centre is situated on a 42 hectare property and has eleven exhibition halls covering 42 000 square metres.
