2,6-million travellers through SA ports in June

Almost 2,6-million travellers, including arrivals and departures, passed through South African ports of entry in June, according to figures released by Statistics South Africa. The travellers comprised 891 689 South Africans and 1,6-million foreigners.

A comparison of movements between May and June indicate that the volume of arrivals declined for South African residents and foreign travellers while departures decreased for foreign travellers but increased for South African residents.

StatsSA says that the most common mode of travel into South Africa was by road with 1 89-million people using roads out of the total of almost 2,6-million. Almost 700 000 travellers used air transport. It says that 91% of tourists were in South Africa on holiday while 2,2% came here for business and 0,7% aimed to study in the country.
