Make or act in your own movie from conception to completion

AFDA, the award-winning and leading Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance School, is offering evening courses in Johannesburg and Cape Town - a great opportunity to be part of the production and performance process of making a 16mm short film. The courses offer those already working in the industry or related fields, an upgrade of existing skills as well as the chance to explore a sift in your vocational path.

The three week screen-writing course is designed to create short film scripts of five to 10 minutes for manufacture in the six week production course. Brett Simpson, short course producer says, "Do the AFDA writing course - it helps you understand the language and structure of film making."

The acting course includes the three week writing course as it is the foundation of the performance course. "The course ironed out all the areas where I was weak in terms of performance for film and TV, and the structured environment enabled me to stay focused and disciplined, as well as remain enthusiastic throughout", reports Guy Kaimowitz, acting course 2003 graduate.

The Production course gives you the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience the following disciplines: directing and writing, producing, sound design, editing, production design and cinematography. "This is a tough collaborative challenge and will ultimately yield five to six new short course films that deal with relevant South African cultural issues," according to Garth Holmes, Executive Director of the AFDA Group.
