Kaan goes gold at Veritas

The Golden Kaan wine brand has won gold at Veritas, one of South Africa's premier wine awards, announced last Saturday night in Cape Town.

The 2007 Private Collection Chardonnay was awarded a gold medal while the 2005 Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the 2008 Classic Chenin Blanc, were awarded bronze medals.

The brand comprises three distinct tiers: the Classic, Winemaker's Reserve with three wines and Private Collection consisting of two wines. This last range is super-premium and produced for the discerning wine drinker.

The award follows closely upon the Opening of the House of Golden Kaan in Robertson, Western Cape, on 25 September. This is already a tourism destination in the fertile Breede River Valley and the origin of the brand.

The brand is a joint venture between the fifth generation family-owned Racke of Germany and South African-based KWV Limited. Thus, the wines were made by Sterik de Wet of KWV and Johannes Himmelsbach of Racke.

Since its launch in 2003, the brand has become a leading South African wine brand with distribution in over 30 countries selling over 1.4 million cases to date.
