Organised by Proudly South African and sponsored by PetroSA, the HomeGrown Awards recognise and promote South African companies, products, and services that play a vital role in creating employment opportunities and accelerating economic growth in SA.
The criteria for the competition include innovation and quality, a progressive Proudly South African mindset, at least 50% local content, and stringent labour and environmental practices.
Started in 1994 as a family business, today the Bandito's range of chilli products is a hit with consumers, not just in native South Africa but internationally too - having become a hit in Australia, Europe, the British Isles, New Zealand, Canada, Japan and the USA.
The company assures that all its products are 100% natural and made of fresh ingredients with no artificial colourants, flavourings or preservatives.
The range, which varies from mild to fiery hot, consists of three different chilli-vegetable relishes, six different hot sauces, two varieties of cooking sauces, pickled jalapeno peppers and mild salsa. The products are free of animal and dairy products, and have halaal and kosher accreditation.
In South Africa, Bandito's products can be found at Hyperama, Spar, Pick n Pay, Shoprite and are distributed by Stafford Bros & Draeger. Bandito's has also been approved as a supplier to the Woolworths group.
