Ananzi launches online service to help educate South Africans about AIDS

Ananzi has launched a new product on its website to help educate South Africans about HIV/AIDS. The product, called ActionAIDS, is an interactive solution that provides information coupled with support for people exposed to HIV/AIDS.

"We are very enthusiastic, because we are able to launch a product that will contribute to and benefit our society," said Mark Buwalda, managing director of Ananzi.

A person choosing to subscribe to the service can register his whole household, allowing them access to the ActionAIDS web site, where they can do online tutorials that provide information about HIV/AIDS, how it is transmitted, safe sex, testing and more.

The subscriber is also allowed access to a 24-hour a day, 365 days a year communication center that provides advice on HIV/AIDS and assistance should he come into contact with the disease. This support includes counseling, blood tests to determine HIV status and a 28-day course of antiretroviral drug therapy should he be infected. It has been shown that if antiretroviral therapy can be instituted within 72 hours of exposure, the individual has a 98% chance of testing HIV-negative at the end of the course.

"We need to have something out there that makes a difference. We need to start recognizing that AIDS is a real problem in South Africa and that it is up to us to do something to prevent its spread. We need to stop sitting around waiting for someone else to take action," Buwalda said.

15% of the revenue generated by the subscriptions will be donated to Cotlands.
