Mike Robertson appointed Publisher of Sunday Times

The Sunday Times has appointed Mike Robertson as the new Publisher with effect from July 1, 2002. Managing Editor Peter Malherbe will act as the editor, until the post is filled.

The Publisher post became vacant when Brian Pottinger was appointed Managing Director of BDFM in February.

Mike Robertson was part of the team that in 1998 was charged with developing a new growth strategy for the Sunday Times. Since then the results speak for themselves: the editorial team has won a string of illustrious international and national awards while the paper has enjoyed phenomenal circulation growth. In the past two years it has consistently sold over 500 000 copies. The Sunday Times has also managed to grow its overall share of advertising in a declining market.

It is this commitment to excellence and passion that Mike will bring into his new position as Publisher of the Sunday Times.

Mike Robertson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economic History and African Government from the University of Natal, and is a graduate of the Argus Cadet School. He has worked for Johnnic Publishing for the past 12 years in various positions including Deputy News Editor Business Day, London Correspondent The Morning Group, Political Correspondent Business Day and later Political Correspondent Sunday Times. He was appointed deputy editor in 1996 and editor in 1998.

The Board of Johnnic Publishing has every confidence that Mike and the talented team he leads will continue to produce a high quality and profitable newspaper of world class standards.
