Brenda passes away

The Fassie family is humbled that friends and fans of this African Superstar have rallied behind her since her hospitalisation. It was with sadness that the family of pop diva Brenda Fassie announced her passing away at Sunninghill Hospital last night.

According to her brother Themba Fassie, the pop star opened her eyes as tears streamed down her cheeks. She died shortly thereafter just after 17H00 on Sunday afternoon, with family members at her bedside.

A Vodacom line has been set up for fans to get updates on funeral arrangements and other announcements. Furthermore, fans will be able to leave a personalised voice message and condolences to Brenda's family. They will also get to preview her forthcoming hit song, "My Baby" which is the last of Brenda's personal contribution to the South African musical creative spirit.

The family is also distressed about unscrupulous elements that are setting up "Hotlines" without the family's consent, and claiming to be in support of Brenda Fassie. The family views such behaviour as unethical, and does not translate to compassion for the Fassie Family at this time. All cell phone networks and media groups are advised not to open any Brenda Fassie related hotlines without consultation with the Fassie Family and her managers. The family reserves its legal rights on this matter.
