Entries open for new-look SAB Sports Journalist of the Year Awards

This year the number of awards has been reduced from 23 to seven in order to increase the profile and value of those that are awarded. What this means is that there will be one overall SAB Sports Journalist of the Year, which brings the awards into line with international trends and other prestigious media competitions. In the past there were three overall category winners, but none of them could call themselves the SAB Sports Journalist of the Year.

The 29th SAB Sports Journalist of the Year Awards will be for work produced between 1 January 2008 and 30 April 2009. SAB founded the Sports Journalist of the Year in 1980 and since then the competition has grown to be one of the most respected awards for sports journalists in South Africa.

Submission of entries for the awards is now open and will close on 15 May 2009. The presentation will take place at the Maroela Room at the Sandton Sun, Johannesburg, on Monday, 29 June. For more information and to download an entry form, go to www.sabsportsjourno.co.za.
