SA editors to meet with president

The South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) announced yesterday, Thursday, 14 June 2007, that South African editors will meet with President Thabo Mbeki and members of his Cabinet on Sunday, 17 June. The meeting is a follow-up to the historic meeting between editors and Government held at Sun City in 2001.

At the Sun City meeting, Mbeki, his cabinet and editors spent two days discussing, amongst other matters, relations between government and the media.

The June 17 meeting, to be held at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria, follows the meetings of the World Editors' Forum and World Association of Newspapers congress which were held in Cape Town earlier this month.

"SANEF values good relations with government and other stakeholders. This meeting will allow us to discuss issues of mutual concern and benefit," said SANEF chairperson Jovial Rantao.
