    Richard Bloom's legacy honoured

The Richard Bloom Foundation, in association with Aardvark Press Publishing and Glasshouse, has announced the 2008 Richard Bloom Benefit Event to be held on 30 April 2008 in Cape Town. The benefit will raise funds for a fashion industry bursary programme headed up by designer, Craig Port, and is in honour of Richard Bloom who was tragically murdered two years ago along with actor Brett Goldin.

The event will also play host to the launch of “Soul Conductor: A Tale of Grieving and Healing” by Bryan Hellmann, a book which is an exploration of the grief experienced at the loss of Richard Bloom, his life partner. Hellmann's story documents his grieving process and coming to terms with the tragedy, whilst providing an honest and genuine insight from the perspective of a clinical psychologist. This powerful manuscript hopes to help others who have lost someone close through crime. Hellmann will be giving an inspirational talk about the Foundation, and will read an excerpt from his book during the course of the evening.

The Foundation was established in August 2006 by Craig Port in order to honour the memory of his friend and colleague, and today raises funds for the support and practical training of young designers entering the fashion industry. A group of young designers enter their ideas which are then judged by a panel who look at various elements including social awareness and responsibility. The winner is awarded The Richard Bloom Foundation Bursary. This year's title holder will be decided later this year.

The 2008 Richard Bloom Foundation Benefit Event will take place at 6:30pm on Wednesday 30 April at the Glasshouse in Cape Town. A donation of R200 will include an autographed copy of the book and proceeds will go towards the foundation. For more information contact Carol on 021 419 9599 or email, .
