The campaign for The Zimbabwean was one of only nine ADC Gold Cubes awarded in the category worldwide.
The ADC 89th Annual Awards will be presented on 19 May at the SVA Theatre at the School of Visual Arts in New York. This year marks the first time the club has ever presented a best-in-show ADC Black Cube, which was introduced last year, and the first time in 12 years that ADC has made such a selection.
In addition, ADC will name recipients of this year's Agency of the Year, Network of the Year, Design Team of the Year, Interactive Agency of the Year and School of the Year honours, based upon cumulative points for this year's winning work, and the ADC Vision Award, presented by the ADC Board to a company or individual whose work embodies the ADC mission and presents breakthrough ideas.
BBDO New York was the top agency winner with three ADC Gold Cubes, followed by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and Wieden + Kennedy with two Golds each. On the client side, HBO received three ADC Gold Cubes, including two for “Cube Film Installation” in the advertising (unconventional/guerilla) and design (environmental design) categories, while NIKE “Livestrong Foundation” and The New York Times Magazine each won two Golds.
Colgate also received two ADC Gold Cubes, one each for the “Comics” campaign by Prolam Y&R, Santiago, Chile, and “Take Them Out” from Miami Ad School Europe, Hamburg, Germany.

ADC Design Sphere: 1 ADC Design Sphere Cube awarded, 2 Merit
Now in its third year, ADC Design Sphere honours a comprehensive and sustained programme of design, by a single design firm for a single client. This category recognises those who set the standard for excellence in consistent, innovative and relevant design communications for a period of 3-10 years and/or beyond. This year's ADC Design Sphere Cube went to:
ADC-Nissan Student Brief Competition: 6 ADC Cubes (2 Gold, 2 Silver, 2 Bronze, 2 Merit)
This year also marks the inaugural ADC-Nissan Student Brief Competition. Playing off the Art Directors Club prestigious Cube award, students were asked to respond to a brief for the new Nissan cube, which was then judged by a jury of Nissan executives and creatives from TBWA\Chiat\Day, the car company's ad agency.

The two winning teams will split a US$3500 scholarship award from Nissan and US$2500 from ADC.

Gala and after-party
The ADC 89th Annual Awards will be presented on 19 May at 6.30 pm at the SVA Theatre at the School of Visual Arts, 333 West 23rd Street, New York. After an hour of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the theatre's lobby, the awards will be presented using what is intended to be an engaging, fast-paced new format that will allow winners to thank their teams and express their views on the challenges of creating winning work.
ADC Cube presenters will be a who's-who of top industry creatives, including ADC past presidents Bob Greenberg, chairman, CEO, global CCO at R/GA, Paul Lavoie, chairman, TAXI and Bill Oberlander, EVP, CCO-New York, Cossette Communications, as well as past presidents/ADC Hall of Fame laureates George Lois and Richard Wilde, chair, BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department, School of Visual Arts and founding partner, Wilde Design.
At the conclusion of the awards gala, the celebration will continue a few blocks away at the official ADC 89th Annual Awards after-party at the ADC Gallery, 106 West 29th St, New York. The open-bar after-party includes hors d'oeuvres, signature cocktails and music by hot-tipped Brooklyn indie band Twin Sister.
