SA director shoots TVC on mobile phone

Nokia felt that the best way to show off its new N93 was to use it to film a television commercial about the mobile phone, contracting South African award-winning director Gavin Wratten to conceptualise and film it.

"This achievement demonstrates the amount of faith we have in the quality of our products," says Adrian Lee, Nokia marketing manager for South and East Africa. "To film a television commercial on a handheld camera is rare but to have done it using a mobile phone is quite extraordinary."

Most advertisements are shot using huge crews on elaborate sets using expensive equipment.

"When I first heard the concept I was a little sceptical, until I experienced the quality of video taken by the N93," says Wratten, who also recently directed the filming of the M-Net's Nokia Face of Africa project. "In the commercial, we really emphasised what makes this phone so great - the fact that you always have it on you."

The Nokia N93 features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, DVD-like video capture and 3x optical zoom.
