Lion for Saatchi & Saatchi SA

Saatchi & Saatchi SA brought home a Cannes Lions Bronze, one of only two awarded to SA in the hotly contested Film category at the 2006 Cannes Lions last week, for its commercials for Homestead, an NGO in Cape Town that helps get kids off the street and back into society.

The ads hold up a mirror to our materialist society by advertising prizes, like home gyms and televisions, in exchange for donations. These prizes are juxtaposed on the faces of street children sleeping under a bridge or on the pavement.

Comments Saatchi & Saatchi SA CEO, Gail Curtis, "The South African operation aims to mirror the global legacy of Saatchi & Saatchi and over the last few years has maintained its position within the top creative agencies. Winning awards of this calibre helps us achieve our goal to be revered as the hothouse for world-changing creative ideas that create sustainable business solutions for our clients."

Leon Jacobs, Saatchi & Saatchi SA creative director, agrees: "We feel we are about to enter a great new chapter in the creative history of Saatchi & Saatchi. We have the right people, the opportunities and the tools to redefine ourselves as an ideas company that will be famous for its supply of relevant business ideas. This kind of recognition on the world stage of creativity is truly awesome."
