Isipingo Beach revamped after storm damage

Isipingo Beach has been given a facelift more than four years after it was wrecked in a savage storm that battered Durban's eastern shoreline and destroyed the old lifesaving club.

IOL reports that the entire area has been upgraded including the car park and ablution blocks while the facilities for lifeguards and council staff will now be provided at the Ski Boat Club.

The eThekwini municipality is currently investigating various options that can be implemented to prevent any future damage to the beach.

According to Christo Swart, deputy head of parks, leisure and cemeteries at eThekwini council, the Rivermouth region is no longer a swimming area and new swimming facilities will be located further north in front of the Reunion Park Recreation Facility.

Lifeguards are on duty in the area to protect bathers.
