This includes the ethanol-powered coach that is undergoing an extended evaluation programme with the Johannesburg Metro Transport Department.
Scania is making use of its involvement at COP17 to promote its sustainable urban transport initiatives. The company has several programmes that look at alternative fuels and power sources. These include developing engines that use bio ethanol, biodiesel and biogas, with ongoing testing of hybrid vehicles.
In addition, Scania is very active in the realm of road safety and working with drivers and fleet operators to improve skills and thereby cut operating costs.
