TRIS2024 The Township Retail Investment Summit
TRIS aims to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders including business owners, township based entrepreneurs, investors and community leaders to discuss, collaborate and strategize effective solutions for economic growth and development in the less formalised township space.
First hosted in 2022, the event was the brainchild of township dreamers Jason McCormick (Exemplar REITail), Miles Kubheka (Wakanda), Lekau Sehoana (Drip) and Rita Zwane (Imbizo Shisanyama).
The event aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among participants to create a vibrant and sustainable township retail ecosystem.
It was established out of a desire to generate positive change and the event allows for a think tank type environment to investigate and generate positive, tangible solutions to accessibility, funding, business skills and investment opportunities within this retail space.
The ultimate aim of the event is to share insights, create partnerships and build a better South Africa.
Introduced at the 2023 event, the Kasipreneur Pitch Session gave five township start-ups the opportunity to pitch their business to the audience and a panel of judges for the chance to win a rent -free 12-month lease agreement in one of the Gauteng-based retail assets within the Exemplar portfolio.
The session was introduced out of Exemplar’s desire to create real, actionable and measurable impact out of TRIS rather than hosting an event that talks about action but does not implement it.
Exemplar believes in empowering and uplifting local business and the Kasipreneur pitch session was the next step in creating a platform for local small business growth.
