Gordhan provides R25-billion for industry

I-WEC's big wind turbine mould is unveiled
Engineering News reports that local wind power company Isivunguvungu Wind Energy Converter (I-WEC) unveiled a 42-t mould that would be used to locally manufacture Africa's first multi-megawatt wind turbines. Arriving by ship from China, the mould will be used to manufacture 50m long rotor blades - larger than the span of an Airbus wing. At 2.5-MW, I-WEC's turbines would be nearly double the size and capacity of the 1.3-MW turbines currently in use in South Africa. Read more >>

PetroSA records R831 million net profit
Higher crude oil prices have helped the South African national oil company, PetroSA, to record R831 million in net profits, reports AllAfrica.com. PetroSA said it had reversed its negative annual results and recorded R831 million in net profits and R10.5 billion in revenues - up from R8 billion in 2010. Read more >>

Massmart: Saccawu taking a softer line
Business Day reports that the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu), which is opposing the R16,5bn merger of US giant Walmart with SA's Massmart, appears to be taking a softer line in the final day of the Massmart hearing in the Competition Appeal Court, suggesting that strenuous conditions be set if the merger went ahead.
