The illicit dumping of toxic and hazardous waste off the coast of Somalia, which has largely destroyed the fishing grounds there, has been cited as one of the root causes of piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off the east coast of Africa, according to a report carried in Polity. 
According to the Business Day, Business Leadership SA chairman Bobby Godsell said that nine of the 12 demands presented to the Chamber of Mines by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) could be addressed by regulation the government already has in place. 
IOL says that while there have been disruptions to the ferry service that runs to Robben Island each day, the striking workers have now reduced their wage demand from R3500 across the board to R2000 and the workers no longer insist that the ferry service must stop operating between Christmas and New Year.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Jeff Radebe said that the Legal Practice Bill must bring transformation to a logical conclusion.
