Caveat Legal (Pty) Ltd runs a network of associate- and partner-level attorneys which it places to work as consultants to small and medium sized businesses, corporates, banks and law firms; either in-house or remotely; and on a contract/project basis.
Our consultants are sourced predominantly from South Africa's top law firms, where most have worked at associate- or partner-level in one or more of the main commercial fields of law. They choose to work as consultants rather than employees at firms because consulting offers them more flexibility in their working hours and greater autonomy over their practice of law.
Because they carry no overheads, Caveat Legal consultants are able to charge rates that are less than half of the rates charged for their services by law firms.
We can place consultants in teams or on their own, and for a defined project (eg: a transaction or contract) or a defined period (eg: to fill in for someone on maternity leave). They work as independent contractors, so do not become our clients' employees.
Our consultants are available to provide training on compliance with legislation (eg: Consumer Protection Act, Income Tax Act, Companies Act, Labour Relations Act and legislation relating to energy and sustainability).
We also place more junior legal staff to work as consultants to law firms (eg: to handle temporary increases in work load) as well as to local legal process outsourcing (LPO) providers.
Specialties
Commercial law, tax, employment law, construction law, property law, ICT law, mergers & acquisitions, banking & finance, succession, trusts & estates law, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), training on compliance with legislation, legal process outsourcing (LPO)
