×Agent for my Dad who is an accomplished South African Landscape artist.
Dear Sir/Madam,
May I that this opportunity of introducing you to the life and work of one of South Africa's most accomplished landscape artist - James Gobel. James was born in 1936 in what was then the quaint little village of Gordon's Bay, a picturesque coastal town, nestled between mountains and the sea on the False Bay coastline of Cape Town.
His desire to paint was nurtured from the age of 10 years old when he befriended a local professional artist named Harold Boyes. Harold, despite being deaf and mute, guided James in the intricacies of water colour. Allowing James to sit and watch him at work as he unlocked the secrets of colour, shading and distance, firmly grounding James's lifelong love affair with the South African landscape and his passion for the arts.
Upon leaving school, James took up an apprenticeship as a colour lithographer in Cape Town. It is here that he gained the knowledge that resulted in his excellent technique of blending and mixing of colour with oil paint.
Every weekend James would venture out, visiting the surrounding farms near Somerset West to capture the beauty in the kaleidoscope and tapestry of colour and texture on canvass. Some farmers, seeing his work would ask him to paint their farms. This proved to be so lucrative that he left the printing trade and opened shops in Somerset West, Pretoria and Gauteng where he combined his love and passion for Persian carpets, with the selling of his own works of art including that of other artists.
Retiring in 2008, James now concentrates full time on his painting. His genius in rendering light and shadow and managing to capture the warm South African sunlight on canvas makes his paintings much sought after by collectors all over the world.
His work can be found as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Finland and the United Kingdom. James Gobel has never expressed his desire to commercialise his work for the sake of making a profit, hence he has purposefully been determined to rather concentrate on painting and selling his beautiful creations to a selective group of art lovers who would be willing to appreciate his efforts and dedication to the field of creative expression.
It is therefore a huge benefit to any potential buyer who wishes to purchase one of his paintings, knowing that you are indeed purchasing not only a unique work of art but also a serious investment that can and will be appreciated for generations to come.
On this note, I would love to present to you a collection of his paintings that I trust you might be interested in to have displayed in your corporate offices, consultation rooms, boardrooms, entrance halls or private homesteads.
We would also consider the option of special commissioned pieces for corporate clients who want paintings specific to composition, colour and geographical regions.
We thank you for the opportunity to present some of his investment pieces to your organisation.
