Launched features and supplements. These have all been highly successful both in terms of readers' response and generating revenue.
To boost reader participation and add something new to the Corridor Gazette I initiated a wildlife photography competition at the beginning of 2011. Monthly prize winners are eligible for the grand prizes at the end of this year.
For additional experience I write news articles and take photographs for the newspaper.
The annual Alfred Dunhill Championship held at Leopard Creek Golf Club presents a golden opportunity for networking and gaining photographic and editorial experience. Corridor Gazette never used to send a journalist to cover this event and has been making use of photographs and articles supplied by the tournament's media liaison. I saw an opportunity and have covered this prestigious tournament in 2009 and 2010. The experience, knowledge and contacts gained from this initiative has proven to be invaluable.
Learned how to use "Illustrator" and "Photoshop".
Achievements
Lowveld Media staff awards November 2009 & 2010: "Best Free Newspaper Rep" and Best Free Newspaper Based on Performance (ad sales)."
As a result of excellent ad sales we brought out the first ever 24 page edition of the Corridor Gazette on December 9, 2010. This newspaper is an eight page publication that from time to time goes up to 12 or 16 pages, depending on ad sales. I also achieved 170% of my sales target for December 2010 - another first. The Corridor Gazette was established in April 2005.
Had a few of my photographs published on the front pages of Corridor Gazette and The Lowvelder.
Activities: Golf, cycling, mountain biking, hockey, action cricket, photography.
